Importance of Human Contact
to Offset the Pain of Being Shunned

Much good healing does occur when ex-members get together and talk. Communication is healthy because shunning actually prevents important communication between family members and friends at the time when communication is needed most. Belief in shunning even keeps ex-members separated from one another because of the shame attached to the shunning label. Religiously-imposed shame is unhealthy. It is time to heal the shame of alienation. After all, it is not your fault if a religious theology collides with your free will! Believe it — healing is do-able!

Know that the very fact that you were able to leave the religious fold means that you have taken giant growth steps toward regaining your health!
